Meet Eye Cue from Macedonia!

April 23, 2018

This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May.  With around two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital, Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.

Who are Eye Cue?

Eye Cue, one of the most popular bands in Macedonia, are a duo made up of Bojan Trajkovski, Marija Ivanovska and occasional drummer Ivo Mitkovski. The group was formed in 2008 as a trio with Bojan as the lead vocalist, but it wasn't until 2013 that Marija joined the group at only 15 years old.

The group gained great success with the release of their song "Magija" in 2008, and they followed on from that success with the release of 2 albums, a participation at Skopje Fest in 2015, which they won, and picking up numerous awards along the way such as "Band of The Year" and "Song of The Year".

How were Eye Cue chosen?

Eye Cue were chosen to sing for Macedonia at Eurovision 2018 via an internal selection. The Macedonia broadcaster MRT called for potential Eurovision songs. A total of 382 songs were sent to the broadcaster which were then shortlisted to just 12 by a panel. After further deliberation and voting from the panel, it was eventually decided that "Lost and Found" would be the song for Lisbon! Eye Cue have teamed up with Darko Dimitrov (composer of Macedonia's 2006 entry, "Ninananja") for their Eurovision song.

Macedonia in the Eurovision Song Contest

Macedonia attempted to enter Eurovision in 1996 with 2 times Eurovision participant Kaliopi, but they failed to qualify from the pre-selection round. It wasn't until 1998 that they made their official Eurovision debut with the song "Ne Zori, Zoro" sung by Vlado Janevski. They failed to set the scoreboard alight, finishing in 19th place out of 25 countries, gaining only 16 points.

Since then, Macedonia hasn't had a lot of success in the contest. Out of a further 17 participations, they have never once managed to reach the top 10. Their 2 best placings have come from Elena Risteska 2006 and Kaliopi in 2012, finishing in 12th and 13th place respectively. Macedonia has failed to qualify from the semi final since 2012. Could Eye Cue be the ones to change all that?
