Meet Sevak Khanagyan from Armenia


This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May. With around two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital. Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.

Who Is He?

Sevak Khanagyan is a Russian-Armeniansinger and songwriter. Khanagyan was born on 28 July 1987 in Metsavan. When it comes to music Sevak is also academic to as he graduated in 2014 with a music degree. He first rose to prominence in 2015, when he competed in the first season of Glavnaya Stsena, the Russian version of The X Factor, he did not win but was eliminated in the earlier stages. He suffered the same fate when he competed in season four of The Voice of Russia. This did not stop Sevak following his dreams as he later went on to be a contestant on the Voice Ukraine. This time he won the competition. His prominence there will ensure he will receive points from the eastern country. His latest dabble in music now comes as the Armenian representative at Eurovision. Will his TV exposure catapult him to further success?

How Was He chosen?

In December 2017, he was confirmed as a competitor in Depi Evratesil 2018 with the song "Qami". He qualified from the second semi-final on 21 February 2018, and went on to win the competition on 25 February, taking him on to represent his country in Lisbon in May 2018.

Armenia at Eurovision Song Contest

Armenia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 11 times since making its debut in 2006, and has reached the top 10 on seven occasions. Armenia's best result in the contest is two fourth-place finishes; achieved by Sirusho in 2008 with the song "Qélé, Qélé", and Aram Mp3 in 2014 with "Not Alone". 2011 is the only year that Armenia has failed to advance from the semi-final round. As a relatively new comer to the contest, their Eurovision record is quite impressive.
