April 20, 2018

This year 43 countries will be present at this years Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Lisbon in May. With around two weeks to go until all of Europe descends on Portugal's capital. Eurovoxx will introduce you to each country that will be participating.

Who Is She?

Gianna Terzi also known as Yianna Terzi is a Greek singer and songwriter. Terzi was born on 1 December 1980 in Thessaloniki. The music gene runs in the family, as she is the daughter of Greek singer Paschalis Terzis. At a young age she showed signs of wanting to make this her profession, and at 20, she moved to Athens to pursue a music career, releasing the album "Gyrna to kleidi" in 2006 . She later released the album "Ase me na taxidepso"  in 2008 which was accompanied by a single of the same name. Terzi later moved to the United States.  Her Eurovision entry "Oneiro mou"  entered the Greek chart at number 5.

How Was She chosen?

Terzi was selected as one of the twenty shortlisted artists for the Ellinikós Telikós 2018 with the song "Oneiro mou" on 27 October 2017, representing Panik Records. Later, on 8 November, she became one of the five acts to be selected to move on to the televised final.  There was some controversy surrounding her choice for Eurovision, as five acts were initially selected for a national final.  After, weeks of disqualifications, and artists not being able to pay the 20,000 Euro fee to the national broadcaster, Gianna's song was the only one left in the running, and subsequently the only one left that could represent her country.

Greece at Eurovision Song Contest

Greece has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 38 times since its debut in 1974. Greece won for the first time in 2005 with "My Number One", sung by Elena Paparizou, she also sang for the band Antique that also performed at Eurovision in 2001.  To that date it was Greece's highest placing Eurovision entry.   Greece has never finished last in the contest. Greece only achieved two top five results in the contest throughout the 20th century. From 21st century, Greece is one of the most successful countries in the contest having qualified for the majority of grand finals, and having ten top 10 finishes.
