The song that Bulgaria will participate in Eurovision this year brings a message about the value of things in the life, and the unconditional love beyond the limits of the material world. In its performance five artists entwine their energy and emotions. Zhana Bergendorff, Vladimir Mihailov, Georgi Simeonov - JJ, Johnny Manuel and Trey Campbell stand behind the Equinox project.
The Equinox project were realised specifically for Eurovision this year, based on the idea of the producer and composer Borislav Milanov. The composition of Bones is the work of Borislav Milanov in collaboration with Trey Campbell, Joakim Perschon and Dag Lundberg. The music producer with which BNT is working for Eurovision this year is Symphonix International. Bulgaria worked with the same company for Eurovision for the last two years too. The first Eurovision song behind which Symphonix International stands is Bulgarian entry Na Inat (2011). This year Symphonix International stands behind Austrian entry “Nobody but you”.
Last year Bulgaria participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Beautiful Mess" written by Borislav Milanov, Sebastian Arman, Joacim Bo Persson, Alex Omar and Alexander V. Blay. The song was performed by Russian-Bulgarian singer Kristian Kostov. On 31 January 2017, a special allocation draw was held which placed each country into one of the two semi-finals, as well as which half of the show they would perform in. Bulgaria was placed into the second semi-final, to be held on 11 May 2017, and was scheduled to perform in the second half of the show. Kristian won his semi final with 403 points overall, he received 199 points from jury voting and 204 points from televoting. On the final Bulgaria finished second with 615 points overall, its received 278 points from jury voting and 337 points from televoting.
Bulgaria has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 11 times since making its debut at the 2005 contest in Kiev. The country's best result is a second-place finish for Kristian Kostov and the song "Beautiful Mess" at the 2017 contest. Bulgaria has failed to qualify for the final in eight out of eleven appearances at the contest. On each of the three occasions they have reached the final they have finished in the top five: placing fifth with Elitsa & Stoyan in 2007, fourth with Poli Genova in 2016 and second with Kristian Kostov in 2017.
