Azerbaijan | Aisel releases 'X My Heart'

Back in November, it was revealed that Azerbaijan had internally chosen Jazz singer Aisel as their representative for Eurovision this year. Her song has now been released on Spotify.

Working with some Eurovision veterans, Aisel steps away from her usual jazz sound to a more pop, radio friendly sound. "X My Heart" was written by Sandra Bjurman (Azerbaijan 2011) and Dimitris Kontopolous (Ukraine 2008, Azerbaijan 2013, Russia 2016) and mixed by Tim Bran (Belgium 2017).

For Aisel's stage act in Lisbon, she will work with legendary stage director Fokas Evangelinos. Fokas is famous for being behind the acts of Helena Paparizou, Dima Bilan, Ani Lorak and Sergey Lazarev.

Aisel says "X My Heart" was her favourite song when she first heard it. "The music gave me a positive, uplifting feeling while performing it has a power that made me enjoy every second in the studio. I feel a strong connection with the lyrics of the song, since believing in myself made me overcome several difficulties I had in my life. This is a message I want to send to everyone: believing in yourself can make you “stronger than cannonballs”. I also like the way Sandra Bjurman played with my name, since “Aisel” in Azerbaijani means “the path of the moon”. Finally, I am thrilled to be working with such an international team. Professionals from Azerbaijan, Greece, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Cyprus, Portugal, Russia, Ukraine are all working together for this entry. For me Eurovision is a contest that unites people around Europe through music. I am really proud to be representing my country in this event.", she said.

Last year, Azerbaijan was represented by Dihaj with "Skeletons", finishing 14th in the final.
