JESC 2018 | Armenia to host national final for Junior Eurovision 2018

It was announced on Depi Evratesil 2018 that Armenia will hold a national final, Depi Mankakan Evratesil, to chose their entry for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The show will be similar to Depi Evratesil and will be open to anyone between the ages of 9 and 14. More details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
This will be the first time since 2014 that Armenia has chosen their entry for Junior Eurovision through a national final. Between 2008 and 2014, Armenia hosted a national final called Junior Eurosong to chose their participant for Junior Eurovision.
After the Junior Eurovision 2017 in Tbilisi, the Armenian delegation were not happy with the way in which the voting was conducted, in particular, the online voting, which crashed during the final, leaving many people unable to vote. Initially, Armenia threatened to withdraw from the competition, but it appears that they will be present at Junior Eurovision 2018 in Minsk with the news of a national final.
Armenia in Junior Eurovision:
Armenia is one of the most successful countries in Junior Eurovision. Since their debut at the 2007 contest in Rotterdam, they have racked up an impressive 8 top 5 finishes out of 11 participation's. They have won the contest once, in 2010, and went onto host the 2011 contest in Yerevan.
Despite only winning the contest once, Armenia have come close to winning the contest on 4 other occasions. In 2007, seven countries awarded Armenia their 12 points, more than any other country that year, but it wasn't quite enough as they finished just 1 point behind winners Belarus. In 2009, there was only 5 points separating them and The Netherlands. In 2015, MIKA managed an impressive 164 points, only 9 points behind Destiny from Malta and in 2016, despite winning the kids jury vote, they had to settle for second place with just 7 points separating them from Georgia.
