Over 12 Million Tune In To Watch Ermal Meta & Fabrizio Moro Win San Remo 2018


Last night, Italy along with Denmark chose their Eurovision entrant for 2018. Italy decided their act by the Festival di Sanremo which is older than Eurovision itself. Figures have been released, and it shows that the Italian's are passionate about the contest. RA1 have revealed that over 12 million tuned in to see the competition.

The 68th edition that took place last night saw 12,125,000 watch the show. This is the highest figure since the 2002 edition, and saw over 100,000 more than last years contest.

The festival that has been a week long affair has seen consistently high figures for the competition. They have never dipped below 9.6 million, and have averaged 10 million. The competition is a highlight of the Italian television calendar.

Last night saw 20 acts take part, whilst three went forward to the "super final". Annalisa, Lo Stato Sociale and Ermal Meta & Fabrizio Moro competed for the ticket to Lisbon. Ermal & Fabrizio went on to take the victory with their song "Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente". Lo Stato Sociale came second, whilst Annalisa finished third.

Since their return in 2010, Italy have had an incredible record at the contest. They have always been fan favourites. Last years SanRemo winner Francesco Gabbani nearly stole the crown last year, and placed 6th. Could this years winner of Festival di Sanremo go five better and win.
