Christabelle Borg With The Song Taboo Will Represent Malta At The Eurovision Song Contest 2018


Super Saturday saw another country announce it's act for Lisbon. Tonight, was all about Malta who opted to find their representative through their national final, "Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2018". The country chose Christabelle Borg with the song "Taboo" to represent them in Lisbon. "Taboo" is officially the fifth song to be chosen for Eurovision so far.

Tonight has seen 16 artists compete for the vote, and Christabelle Borg with the song Taboo has won, and taken the Maltese crown. Christabelle was the favourite with both the public and jury who voted her their favourite. She scored 60 points with the Jury, whilst the televoters agreed giving her 77 points, meaning she got a grand total of 137 votes. Her nearest rival was 39 points away cementing her victory. The top 5 were as follows:

1) Christabelle Borg With the song "Taboo" scoring 137 points

2) Richard & Joe Micallef With the song "Song for Dad" scoring 98 points

3) Brooke Borg With the song "Heart of Gold" scoring 84 points

4) AIDAN With the song "Dai Laga" scoring 42 points

5) Eleanor Cassar With the Song "Back to Life" scoring 36 points

Malta chose to release all 16 songs on the 4th January 2018, giving many fans a chance to listen and chose their favourite. Tonight has seen one winner.

The Grand Final was held at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali, and broadcast live on PBS and online. The overall winner , Christabelle was decided by a combination of 50% public televote, and 50% international jury which had seen Albania, Czech Republic, Iceland, Italy and F.Y.R. Macedonia all cast their votes. The national final is one of the biggest shows in Malta's television calendar that always gets high viewing figures.

Christabelle is 25 years old, old and is quite an accomplished performer and songwriter. She has been singing for 19 years, with her first stage performance being at the very young age of three. She has had several successful songs, and albums, whilst winning several awards over the years. Could the Eurovision crown be her next accolade? Stay tuned to find out.

Malta over the past few years has had mixed fortunes over the years. Ira Losco in 2016 qualified for the Eurovision Grand Final, whilst Claudio Faniello missed out due to scoring "0" with the televoters back in 2017.
