Latvia | Changes made to Supernova and hosts announcement.

Latvian Broadcaster LTV have today announced the hosts of Supernova and also that there will be some changes made to the format of the show.

Who is hosting?

Justs, who sang for Latvia in Eurovision 2016 with "Heartbeats" and Dagmāra Legante, a Latvian television personality and actress, have been confirmed as the hosts for all three semi-finals and the grand final of Supernova 2018.

What changes have been made?

Unlike in previous years, this year they have decided that each viewer will only be able to cast one vote by either phone or SMS. Spotify streams however will still also be counted as part of the public vote.

There will also be a jury, led by DJ Rudd, who will have a say in the final result as well.

It has also been announced that there will be a livestream of the show, hosted by Edgars Bāliņs and Toms Grēviņš, where people will be able to interact via social media.

Two songs from each semi final will qualify to the final on February 24th, with one of them winning the ticket to represent Latvia at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. There will be a total of 21 acts competing in Supernova.

Supernova is one of the newest national finals, having only been around for 3 years! It was created in 2015 by the Latvian Broadcaster to select their entry for The Eurovision Song Contest, and since then, they have managed to qualify two out of three times to the grand final at Eurovision, in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

Supernova replaced the short-lived national final, Dziesma, which only ran in 2013 and 2014. It was cancelled due to the poor results they got at Eurovision.
