Cyprus | Eurovision act to be announced soon

After Helena Paparizou declined the offer to sing for Cyprus at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon, it looks like Cyprus are on the hunt to find their next Eurovision act. OGAE Greece have said that the Cyriot act for Eurovision 2018 will be revealed in the coming days. The song that the successful candidate will sing in Lisbon has been described as an uptempo song with lots of ethnic elements.

It has been confirmed that Alex Papaconstantinou has written and composed the song, so now all that's left to do is find someone to sing it! It is believed that Cypriot broadcaster RIK are looking for a female artist to take on the song.

INFE Greece, a Greek Eurovision fan site hinted that Georgian-Greek singer, Tamta, was approached by RIK, but decided to decline the offer, owing to a busy work schedule at the time of Eurovision. Other names that have been mentioned include Christiana Loizu, who was the winner of Season 4 of X Factor Bulgaria, the same season that saw Kristian Kostov finish in 2nd place and Greek singer Eleni Foueira.

In November 2017, auditions took place in Cyprus' capital, Nicosia, to try and find Cyprus' next Eurovision singer. It was speculated at the time that a national final would be taking place, but at the moment, it appears that Cyprus have once again decided to select internally. The last time Cyprus held a national final for Eurovision was in 2010 when Jon Lilygreen and The Islanders won the ticket to Oslo with their song 'Life Will Be Better In Spring.' In that same year, 3 times Eurovision participant for Cyprus (1996, 2002, 2005), Christoforou Constantinos just narrowly missed out on representing Cyprus for a 4th time.
