RTP have confirmed that 43 countries will be taking part in Eurovision 2018, this means the contest which shall be taking part in Lisbon and hosted at the Altice Arena, will be the largest contest in number of competing countries, equalling the number or participants as 2008 and 2011.
Despite the number being confirmed by RTP we have yet to have official conformation from three countries; Russia, Moldova and F.Y.R. Macedoina. Channel One and Russia are expected to make a comeback after missing the 2017 contest and many still hoping they keep their promise issued back in March that Yulia Samoylova will be the Russian act after she was denied entry to Ukraine and therefore able to compete in 2017. TVM, the Moldovan broadcaster have been very quiet about their participation but are expected to compete again following their record breaking year finishing 3rd in the final with Sunstroke Project, whereas MRT the broadcaster of F.Y.R. Macedonia has expressed a plan to participate in Lisbon is in place, there has been no official conformation of their participation as of yet.
We also know the extra numbers are not from other countries returning after missing the most recent contests, Turkey, Slovakia & Bosnia & Herzegovina have all officially announced they shall not be returning to the contest in 2018.
