2771 Songs Submitted To Melodifestivalen 2018
Sweden's six week blockbuster music competition Melodifestivalen closed their submission period for the 2018 competition yesterday and broadcaster SVT has announced the final number of entries for consideration stand at a whopping 2771 submissions!

For some comparison its the highest amount of entries the contest has received since 2012 and in an increase of almost 300 entries from last year, now the submission period has closed Christer Bjorkman and his team have the unenviable task of cutting down the songs and acts until 28 are left for the live shows, all we know so far in regards to the contest yet is we have one confirmed act - Stiko Per Larsson, after he won the competition P4 Nästa in the summer.
Melodifestivalen has never been shy of drama and surprises over the years, 2017 provided one of the biggest when, out of nowhere 2012 Eurovision winner Loreen was announced as a contestant with her comeback single "Statements" and was dealt another shock when she failed to advance directly to the final in the final heat and then was eliminated by Anton Hagman in Andra Chansen the following week. The competition was evantually won by Robin Bengtsson with the song "I Can't Go On" and finished a solid 5th place in the Grand Final in Kyiv with 334 points.
