It may be a fairly quiet start to the Eurovision season so far, but that is about to change as Cyprus has heated up their prospects for Eurovision 2018 by announcing their composer for the next Cypriot entry in Lisbon. Earlier today it was announced that their entry will be composed by multiple-award winning song writer Alex Papaconstantinou.
If you may not have heard of him, you would have definitely heard of the world famous singers he has written famous songs for. He has recently written hits such as "I Like How It Feels" sung by Enrique Igleasias and "Live It Up " sung by Jennifer Lopez. Many artists seek to have him as a song writer due to his talents, and how successful those songs become internationally. Now it seems the Cypriot broadcaster CYBC have been lucky enough to snare him for their next entry. Although no singer or song has been produced yet, this small Mediterranean island is clearly showing it is in it to win it next year.
Alex. P as he is also known, is of Greek- Swedish descent and currently resides in Stockholm. He manages and produces his own record label, and counts stars as Niki Minaj, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez as stars he has produced songs for.
When it comes to the Eurovision itself, Alex is certainly a friend of it having composed several successful entries. He has produced "Always" (Azerbaijan), "Yassou Maria" (Greece 2007) and "La La Love" (Cyprus 2012). All of these songs placed well at Eurovision in their respective years. He has also worked alongside other Eurovision stars such as Anna Vissi, Elena Paparizou and the band Antique who represented Greece in 2001. In fact their album "Die For You" had several songs written by Alex. P.
Cyprus will decide the artist in January 2018 where they will hold their national final to chose the singer of Alex's composition. It was announced earlier this year that the winner will be chosen through a mix of jury and public votes. Could Cyprus win the contest for the first time next year? They are certainly aiming high. Stay tuned to find out.
