Eurovision Choir Of The Year Provisional Viewing Figures Released

July 24, 2017

It has been nearly two days since Slovenia's Carmen Manet won the first ever edition of the Eurovision choir of the year competition.  The show which was broadcast from Arena Riga in Latvia saw nine countries compete to be crowned Europe's best.  Since then, the viewing figures for Slovenia and Austria have been released.  Around 14 countries chose to broadcast the show, and around 10 of them were live, so viewing figures will not come in thick and fast.

Channel ORF 2 were Austria's broadcaster, and they have recently published their results.  The channel which shortened the show to 90 minutes , and was shown from 22.45 CET that evening saw a total of 140,000 viewers tune in.  In turn that saw them with a market share of 12%.  Considering it was broadcast later in the evening, and delayed slightly, the figures coming from this central European country is quite impressive.

The second country was Slovenia with the broadcaster RTVSLO have also published their viewing figures.  The country that broadcast the show live announced that 242 600 with a market share of 13%.  What is impressive is that compared to the Eurovision Song Contest Grand Final, there were an extra 40,000 viewers.  So not bad for a first time broadcast.

There maybe a little wait in regards to such countries such as Germany who have chosen to broadcast the show in August.  The audience may already know the winner, and with clips going on YouTube it may put people off watching the show.  Wales who came second with S4C being their broadcaster, are not likely to see viewing figures this high.  With a population of nearly 4 million, and Welsh only being spoken by less than 25% of the people, the show may have struggled to gain viewers.

The head of Latvian television (LTV) Kulturas,  Ieva Rozentale and also the woman responsible for the show has stated "There is no doubt there will be another Eurovision Choir Of the Year".  If the viewing figures are reasonably high, it shows that there is clear market for a television show of this calibre.
