In just 2 days time. This Saturday 22nd July, the very first ever Eurovision Choir Of The Year will Take Place in Riga Latvia. It will be held in the Arena Riga and will see nine countries from Europe compete to see who will be crowned Europe's best. Over the next two days Eurovoxx will give you all the details of the artists. The 9 choirs are given six minutes to perform as many songs as they wish. The fifth country to be premiered is Germany. WDR will be Germany's national broadcaster. They will not broadcast the event live like other nations, instead opting to show the competition on August 6th 2017.
Who Are Germany's Choir?
The choir representing Germany will be Jazzchor Freiburg. Bertrand Gröger was the founder of the choir in 1990, and since then they have toured all over the world. They have been successful in competitions winning both the German Choir Contest in 1998 and Choir Olympiad in South Korea in 2002. As well as having amazing vocals, they also are known for their performances that are very entertaining. This has led them to appear on many television shows, not only in Germany, but other nations too. The musical influence tends to be Scat, Rap and Shout elements. However, their influences come from crooners such as Nat King Cole. The choir also tends to be accompanied by its own band. Check their official webpage here.
What Will They Sing?
The Title of the songs have not been officially released yet.
Who Is the Conductor?

Bertrand Gröger has the honour of show casing the German talent this Saturday. He studied classical music in Frieburg, Paris and Jazz in Hamburg. He set up Jazzchor Freiburg in 1990, and they have toured all over Europe, and Southern Asia. He was awarded the ZMF Prize in 1997 for his work as choir director. Bertrand has also appeared on many television, and radio programmes. He has been a guest conductor for orchestras, choirs and bands around the world and is also active as a juror for German and international choir competitions.
How Will The Winner Be Chosen?
Unlike Eurovision there will be no tele voting, and no 'douze point', instead a winner will be chosen by a professional and impartial jury. The jury will consist of Latvia's Elina Garanca (a mezz- soprano), Switzerland's Nicolas Fink (a conductor), and finally United Kingdoms John Rutter (composer).
What Are The Rules?
The choirs have up to six minutes to perform one or more songs in the time allocated, and they can use any genre of music to sing. However they, “should in part reflect national or regional character in some way”.
