JESC 2017 | Gianluca Cilia Has Been Chosen To Represent Malta

Last night Malta selected its reprersentative for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Tiblisi. Gianluca Cilia won this honour, and hopes to be the third participant from this small island to win the Eurovision crown. Check the song out here:
This year the national final was a small affair and consisted of ten singers performing, in the hope of being Malta's next representative. The show was hosted by Iz-Zona who is no stranger to the competition, being Malta's spokesperson at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2010. The show was also hosted by Francesca Zarb. The singers did not sing any original songs, however the public were voting on how the artists sung a cover of a well know song, with Gianluca's performance of Perdere l'amore meaning he was crowned the overall winner.
This year saw a contrast to other years, as there were no jury involvement. Instead the public chose its winner by televote alone. The show also saw performances by previous junior Eurovision contestants with Destiny Chukunyere from 2015 being one of them. The top 3 were:
1. Gianluca Cilia with the song "Perdere l'amore"
2. Veronica Rotin with the song "And I Am Telling You"
3. Rianne Demicoli with the song "Satellite"
The show was there to select the artist only, with the actual song being chosen at a later date. From 84 applications got whittled down to 20 with a jury then selecting the top 10, that culminating in the public choosing the winner. This is in stark contrast to what TVM had declared earlier in the year saying that the entry would be chosen internally. Do you like Gianluca? Let us know in the comments below:
