Bulgaria Withdraw Junior Eurovision 2017 and Eurovision 2018 Conformation
June 7th, new fan favourite nation Bulgaria sent a shockwave around the Junior Eurovision and Eurovision world as they removed their conformation for Junior Eurovision and Eurovision 2018. In two tweets supplied by BNT, the Bulgarian broadcaster, the reason is due to a election within the broadcaster for a new Director-General and new board at the broadcaster, which is due to take place in August and all participation will be assessed once the new executive body is in place. Bulgaria came close to walking away as victors in Kyiv, with Kristain Kostov finishing in 2nd place with "Beautiful Mess" As it stands, 16 countries have confirmed or provisionally confirmed their participation in Portugal 2018
Change In The Air For Germany Selection
Eurovision 2018 will bring a new selection format for Germany in selecting their entry for Portugal. Head of Entertainment at ARD, Thomas Schreiber has confirmed the broadcaster are looking into new ways and ideas to select their entry going forward for the contest. the reforming of the selection process seems to be as a direct response to their poor result in Kyiv - finishing 25th with only six points. It was also discussed wether German star Helene Fischer would compete for Eurovision but no conformation or denial was given to the question.
Former Eurovision Participant Sandra Reemer Passes Away
Dutch singer and three time competitor for The Netherlands, Sandra Reemer has passed away on June 6th aged 66. Sandra represented The Netherlands on three separate occasions, in 1972, 1976 and 1979, where she placed 4th, 9th and 12th respectively. She has passed after a long fight with breast cancer. Our thoughts are with all her family at this sad time.
Maltese national final to remain the same
After this years disappointment for Malta when they failed to qualify to the Eurovision Grand Final, the CEO John Bundy for Malta's national braodcaster PBS has talked to the Times of Malta. He talks about Malta's failure to progress, but also on plans for next years competition, and how their national final will determine their participant for 2018. Putting it simply he states that nothing will change. . John Bundy stated, "We are very disappointed with the result...we had a song that was just as good...ultimately it is a competition". He also added that the Maltese people knows what is best for Malta, and that having a jury may result in the country having the same result. So for now it looks like there will be no change in determining their entries.
Koit Toome and Laura announce their Summer tour dates for 2017
Estonian Eurovision stars Koit Toome & Laura earlier on this evening announced that they are doing a tour this Summer. Despite failing to qualify for Estonia at this years Eurovision, they have clearly decided that this has not dampened their spirits. In actual fact it has done the complete opposite, and they plan to celebrate the Summer in style, and tour Estonia. The tour is called Verona after their Eurovision entry which you can check out below. Tickets are on sale now, and are priced between 13 and 20 Euros each. Be quick though as there are not many shows. The tour is only expected to run between the 10th and 30th July.
Could Caro Emerald be Netherlands next representative?
Celebrated international jazz star Caro Emerald has got euro-tongues wagging following her recent appearance on the RTL Boulevard TV show in the Netherlands. When asked if she would consider representing the Netherlands in Portugal next year, Caro responded: ''I would really have to consider it well. I would find it exciting. I have an enormous international career, and so also the possibility to lose something. I’m not sure if I would dare to do it. But I am open to talk about it, for sure.'' Austria will compete at the Eurovision in 2018
Last Sunday the Austrian television station Osterreichischer Rundfunk (ORF) has confirmed that the country will be present in Portugal in 2018, and that they will compete at the 63rd edition of the competition. Austria sent Nathan Trent this year, where he came 16th in the Grand Final will 93 points. All were awarded by the jury. Could Austria make the top ten next year?
Will it be Ana Kodra for Albania at the JESC?
The 53rd edition of Festivali i Këngës për Fëmijë took place earlier this week in the Albanian city of Shkodër. The winner was Ana Kodra singing the song "Mos Ma Prekni Pemën". Albania has not yet confirmed their participation for Junior Eurovision 2017, (they are due to confirm in June 2017), it is very likely that Ana Kodra will fly the flag for Albania in Georgia in November.
Russia to send Polina Bogusevich with the song "Wings" at the JESC 2017.
Saturday June 3rd, the first song for Junior Eurovision 2017 was confirmed and it is Polina Bogusevich with her song "Krylya" (Wings) who will represent Russia. Polina, 13 was selected in a national selection final which included 21 songs, but her mature vocals and song stood above the rest with the jury and internet voting being in complete agreement, with her winning both portions of the vote and walking away with the 12 points in both rounds, finishing nine points ahead of joint second place Veronika and Vilena. the song is a dramatic esque mid tempo ballad, showcasing a lot of Polina's range and strength vocally as an artist.
