Cyprus | Cyprus Will Not Send Sandro to Rotterdam in 2021

Cyprus' Eurovision Broadcaster CyBC has just announced via Facebook that Sandro will not compete for the island nation in the next edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. This officially confirmed the widespread rumours that have occurred over the last few days that the American-Greek singer/songwriter's Eurovision journey is unfortunately over for now. The Cypriot broadcaster called the decision 'a mutual agreement' that took into consideration his other scheduled agreements. Sandro himself is yet to comment about his Eurovision situation. However, CyBC was expressed admiration for Sandro, stating "The Cyprus delegation would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank Sandro for representing Cyprus at 'Eurovision: Shine A Light' and to whole-heartedly wish him all the best in the very future".

The 23 year old pop singer was announced as Cyprus' 2020 entrant way back in November 2019 and in April, 'Running' was released as his song for the cancelled contest this year. Running gained a lot of media attention for its house-electronic style rhythms and intense chorus that was surely set to be one of this year's big dance tracks. His entry also continues a string of uptempo Cypriot entries that has allowed the country to find a Eurovision identity and strong reputation in producing successful pop music and captivating staging. Following the incredibly popular fan favourites, Eleni Foureira and Tamta as Cyprus' representative would have presented Sandro with no small task in Rotterdam as he was set to continue Cyprus's recent impressive run of form of 5 straight qualifications to the Grand Final. However, his clear passion for the music industry and incredibly polished voice raised many eyebrows and captured a lot of deserved attention during the early part of the 2020 Eurovision season.

Since the rumours of this now confirmed announcement began on the weekend, early rumoured names such as Ivi Adamou and Eleni Foureira have emerged as potential Eurovision 2021 participants for Cyprus. However, as popular former contestants themselves, the rumours appear to be due to fan excitement and anticipation. Having had an impressive run in Germany's 'The Voice' and representing the United States at an international youth music competition called 'The Wave', it is clear that Sandro will reach high and continue to invest his talent in the music industry. We are disappointed to see Sandro's Eurovision journey end so soon but nonetheless wish him all the best in his future!
