Ireland Confirm Junior Eurovision 2018 Participation

It looks like Ireland are set to join the party, and 'light up Minsk' as the country has confirmed that it will be present at this years Junior Eurovision , which will be held this November in Minsk, Belarus.

The Irish broadcaster TG4 have confirmed that they will be present, and their official Facebook page hints of a possible national selection over an internal one.

The news comes a day after Cyprus withdrew their application to join, and will not be present this year. Ireland's announcement today reveals that they will be the 12th country to be present. With the deadline looming soon, there may be others that will be making their way to Minsk.

This year will see Wales debut as an independent nation outside of the United Kingdom, whilst France also make a return to the contest after only one participation back in 2004, fourteen years after their initial entrant. Other countries present will be Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Netherlands, Malta. Poland, Portugal, Russia, and Serbia.

This year will mark Ireland's fourth participation at the contest. Last year they were represented by Muireann McDonnell and the song "Súile glasa". The song failed to impress, at it gave them their worst result. The song came 15th with 54 points. The best result came in 2016 where Zena Donnelly came 10th at 122 points.

Last year 16 countries were present, with still a little time to the deadline could this years edition be bigger than last year. Will Ireland impress the juries at Junior Eurovision? Tell us what you would like to see in the comments below.
